While product & machine designers
are convinced of the benefits of 3D design technologies, the tool-rooms
of most companies are lacking the same enthusiasm—this concerns me.
However, the worldwide competition in manufacturing will drive ALL
aspects of manufacturing to use more innovative solutions or they will
fall behind and eventually perish --this concerns me even more! Some
portions of manufacturing are using 3D today, but it is not the standard
methodology. For instance, 90%+ of progressive die designers still use
2D drafting software tools. While there were reasons for this in the
past, they can been overcome in many cases with solutions from the
