At a recent
meeting with a leading machine designer in the Midwest, I was engaged in
a discussion about competition in the automation marketplace with the
engineering team. It so happened that this machine design company was
currently using outdated 2D CAD tools and being pushed by a significant
customer to adopt a 3D solution. A number of folks within
the organization felt that they did not need 3D tools, as they just
built large assemblies but made up of fairly simple individual parts.
