Technical Support Bulletin: Creating guide slots, using the Offset Entities Sketch tool
By Paul Niedermann

Here is an efficient way to create guide slots, using the Offset Entities Sketch tool.

First, open a sketch, on the face of a part, insert sketch entities, like a construction line, line, arc or a spline, position it and add the appropriate relations and dimensions.
Next, Select all the entities and then select the “Offset Entities” tool.
In the distance box, put the dimension of space that you want the slot placed away from the entity in both directions.
Next, check; “Select chain”, “Bi-directional”, “Make base construction” (If you are not using a construction line) and “Cap ends” (Select arcs or lines).
You may also check “Add dimensions” if you would like the tool to dimension from either side of the line to the edge of the offset.

Select the green check to complete the sketch tool.
See the slot sketch completed in the image below, notice how the sketch entities were set for construction and the dimensions were added automatically.

Finally, select Features “Extruded Cut” and cut the slots into your part.
