SolidWorks has obtained permission from Microsoft to redistribute a hot fix, which will potentially result in file size reduction on saving of files when used in conjunction with SolidWorks 2007 SP1 onwards.
The 32-bit version of this hot fix for Windows XP Professional, documented in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 919880 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;919880 ), has now been made available for general distribution by Microsoft.
Using SolidWorks 2007 SP1 or newer in conjunction with the hot fix from Microsoft will, in many cases, reduce file size. Models with many configurations typically show the largest reduction in size when saved. However, please note that this hot fix will NOT result in a reduction in the size of all files.
Please note that this hot fix is supplied and supported by Microsoft. It is being provided by SolidWorks as a convenience to our customers, but questions regarding installation of this hot fix should be referred to Microsoft.
To obtain this hot fix, login to the SolidWorks Customer portal and select the link in the Top Solutions list for the article titled,
“When will the hot fix be available from Microsoft to reduce file size in SolidWorks 2007 SP1 onwards?”
That article link will bring you to solutions page for this issue.
The links to the hot fix are at the bottom of the page, for English select
“WindowsXP-KB919880-x86-ENU”
Download and run the install, when it is finished reboot your system.
The next time you open an existing file, take note of the file size. When you save it again you may notice as much as a 50% reduction, freeing up more storage space. |
