Technical Support Bulletin: Tips on Updating SolidWorks with Service Packs.
By Paul Niedermann

When updating to the next SolidWorks service pack there are a few thing you will want to remember.

Some security programs can or will disable or block features, functionality or the installation of the SolidWorks update utilities. Make sure that these programs have been updated and run and your system is free of issues, then temporarily disable these programs and run the SolidWorks service pack update.
These programs may include.

· Windows Firewall
· Windows anti-spyware
· Anti-virus programs
· Anti-adware programs
· Anti-spyware / malware programs

It’s also a good practice to empty (delete) the files out of your windows temp folder, leaving the system folders. You can normally find the windows temp folder located here, C:\WINDOWS\Temp. Then, Defragment your C: Drive or local hard drive.

When downloading service packs from the SolidWorks website, make sure you select the correct version you are currently running to update to the next version.
To find your current version in SolidWorks, go to the help menu and select “about SolidWorks”
Look for the service pack SP *.* above the serial number.

See image:

On the download site select update service pack, in the next window, select the version you are upgrading from in the pull down menu.

Next, select the version of SolidWorks you are using, SolidWorks, SolidWorks office, SolidWorks Professional or SolidWorks Premium.

You will then select the primary update and will have some options to select whichever other downloads that are needed for your specific version and add-ins you have installed.

Finally, when installing the update you will need the SolidWorks disks available, SolidWorks will have you put them in your drive, in succession to complete the update.
