Technical Support Bulletin: Creating Electrical Routing Components
By Keith Schaeffer

Over the past couple of weeks, several of our routing users have been calling support asking about the correct creation of electrical routing components for their routing library. There is more to the creation of these components than just dropping a solid model into a folder like in other areas of the software. There are several steps that need to be taken during the creation of these components that will give SolidWorks additional information that it needs to complete the route successfully. This video was created to go through the basic steps that need to be taken for adding components to the electrical routing library. It does not however cover advanced topics like automating the assignment of terminals at the drawing level.  There are a couple of steps that are crucial to the successful creation of working routing components.

This video will cover the addition of named mate references, adding components to the xml library file, and the creation of the two dimensional sketch block for the harness drawing.
