The Auto-dimension Tool is now incorporated into the Fully Define Sketch Tool in SolidWorks 2007. The Fully Define Sketch tool has been greatly improved. This tool will also work inside Hole Wizard sketches. Also new for SW 2007 the Dimension Expert can help repair changes to dimensions and relations.
Using the Fully define sketch tool
To use this tool, create a sketch, then right click and select “Fully Define Sketch”.
In the property manager you will see three boxes one for entities to fully define, one for relations and one for dimensions, the latter is the auto-dimension tool.
You can now add your choice of relations or dimensions to selected or all entities even is some relations or dimensions are already present, all you need to do is select the calculate button after selecting your dimension base points and schemes. You will now have a fully defined sketch as show in the next image.
Making Changes
If you want to make changes to dimensions or relations the Dimension Expert can help with this. If you make a dimensional change, adding a dimension and it comes up over defined you can make manual changes or the Dimension Expert will diagnose options that will resolve the issues easily and simply.
The Dimension expert
To use this feature, select the diagnose button, the dimension expert will diagnose repairs and give you options that will solve the issue. Pick the option that suits you and select the “Accept” button, then complete the feature for a fully defined sketch. See image below.
