Case 1: COSMOS network seat and SW network seat
The end user has 2 options.
- Merge SW and COSMOS network licenses.
To do this end user has to request license from
www.solidworks.com/COSMOS-SN.
-The host ID in this is the dongle id.
- Once the license files are merged the end user can go to customer portal
and request a license file, which will be sent across right away in an email.
What to install?
Server: Install SNL administrator. Read the common text file for SW and
COSMOS into the license manager.
Client: set port @ hostname to communicate with the server.
- Do not Merge SW and COSMOS network licenses.
- In this case SW will receive authorization from a dongle on the server. User will get the
SNL file similar to the current system from customer portal. For COSMOS licenses the user has to request license file from http://www.solidworks.com/pages/programs/COSMOSlicensing/
- In this case the host id is the dongle id of the machine that is supposed to act as a
server for SW and COSMOS license authorization. OR
- Use a different machine, than the one that is being used as SNL server. Host id in this
case is the MAC address of the machine What to install?
Server: Install SNL administrator. Read license files (one for SW and one for
COSMOS) into the SNL administrator.
Client: set port @ hostname for both SW and COSMOS
Case 2: COSMOS network seat and SW stand alone seat
Since SW 2007 SP 3.0 activation has been introduced. This remains the same with SW 2008.
For COSMOS the user now has 2 options
(a) Dongle based authorization.
- User logs onto customer portal https://customercenter.solidworks.com.
- Click Register My Products.
- Enter serial number and other requested information.
- A license file is emailed to customer.
(b) MAC address based authorization
Customer needs to request a license from:
- www.solidworks.com/COSMOS-SN
The customer will get
- 24-digit Serial Number (XX1X...)
- Get the .txt file
- Instructions for up a license file
Case 3: COSMOS stand alone and SW network seat
- Customer gets SNL file from customer portal
- COSMOS needs to be activated on the machine intended for use.
NOTE: If a user a multiple network seats of COSMOS eg: COSMOS designer, COSMOS
professional and SolidWorks Flow Simulation.
New features in SNL Manager:
- Users can borrow licenses for COSMOS products from license administrator.
- The order in which COSMOS products will be licensed out is decided by the license order
tab
NOTE: 2008 SNL Manager will be able to dole out SW 2007 licenses but not COSMOS 2007
licenses. This essentially means users will have to update both SW and COSMOS to 2008 at the
same time.
