Wave Washer 101
By Josh Altergott, Technical Analyst, Computer Aided Technology

The purpose of this exercise is to demonstrate one way to easily model a wave or spring type of washer. It is drawn using two offset planes and a 3dSketch of a spline to create the model. The benefit of modeling a wave washer in this way is that it is a relatively small file size, and it would be very easy to generate a design table to create variations of different sizes.

1. Create an eight-sided polygon at your desired size. Exit the sketch.

2. Create an offset plane above the Top plane at the desired height of your washer.

3. Start a Sketch on the new plane and convert the entities of the first sketch into the current sketch. Exit the Sketch.

4. Repeat Steps 2 & 3, below the first Sketch. At this point you model should look like this.

5. Start a 3DSketch and create a Spline through the following points. Exit the Sketch.

6. Create a plane Normal to Curve. Selecting the Spline and Point 1

7. Start a Sketch on the new plane and draw your profile. Exit the Sketch.

8. Create a Sweep selecting your Profile Sketch and you Spline Sketch as a Path.
