SolidWorks 2006 SP0.0 comes packed with new features and enhancements that will help Industrial Designers work more effectively.
Improved Sketching:
Offset entities , you can offset parabolas, ellipses and partial ellipses, the same as other sketch entities.
Dynamic sketch update , when creating lofts you can edit the sketches as you create the features.
Tangency to face , you can select a face or surface and apply a tangent relationship between the face and another sketch entity.
3D Sketching:
Sketch planes with manipulators , you can create planes while in a 3D sketch, and you can resize and rotate planes using plane edges and manipulators.
Additional 3D sketch entities , you can use arcs, circles and rectangles in a 3D sketch.
Additional 3D sketch relations , you can use perpendicular relations between a line through a point on a surface, relations between sketch entities on a plane and another sketch plane, midpoint relations and relations between arcs and other sketch entities, relations between arcs, such as concentric, tangent and equal.
Dimensional control , dimension between 3D sketch planes and model faces planar surfaces or reference planes. Radius and diameter dimensions between arcs and circles, linear dimension between sketch point and sketch planes along a normal, or between arcs and circles located normal to that plane.
3D Sketch contour selection , when creating lofts with 3D sketch contours, select one or more contours as well as join them.
Splines:
Control Splines , control splines with polygon control, which are sequences of control points in space along a spline.
Relax Spline , relaxes a spline to smoothly move its control points along the spline with out adversely affecting the spline curve.
Dimension to spline handles , smart dimension controls tangent magnitude and radial direction dimension of spline handles.
Sketch Picture Transparency: You can control the transparency of images added to 2D sketches, using the sketch picture command it will preserve the file transparency as well.
Adobe Illustrator Files: You can directly open Adobe Illustrator (.ai) extension files into SolidWorks.
Multi view ports: You can view models through multiple view ports, two view horizontal and vertical as well as four view and link the views in the windows so they update automatically.
Appearance callouts: Appearance callouts display the colors and textures of a face, feature, body or part under the selected item and are a right mouse button shortcut to editing and information about your model.
New Cameras: You can add new cameras into your model documents and control the position. You can then view your model from this new perspective.
Import Diagnostics: When you import a non-SolidWorks file format, Import Diagnostics will prompt you to run, it will find faulty faces and gaps, give the status of the model and attempt to heal the issues, manual steps are also available.
Invert selection: When you select items, then right mouse button and select invert selection, all other similar items are selected and the original items are released.
Lofts: You can add loft sections with greater accuracy and fewer control points, you can loft to a point even if the point is part of sketch containing other sketch entities. Loft sections added in the add loft section command create pierce points to their end points.
Dynamic sketch update , you can drag a 3D sketch to change a features shape and edit its dimensions.
Single 3D sketch , all sketch entities for a loft can be contained in a single 3D sketch including guide curves and profiles.
Variable pitch helix: You can create variable pitch helixes by entering different pitches along the curve at distance you specify.
Mouse wheel: You can now zoom or scroll in any graphics window that is beneath the pointer, without selecting in the window.
Notes : Notes now, Auto wrap and have a built in Spell Checker, if you resize a note text box the text adjusts its position to fit in the box and notes can be checked for correct spelling.

PhotoWorks New Scenes, lights and decals
edrawings on Macintosh
edrawings now supports SolidWorks textures.
