Ed Eaton of the DiMonte Group, had to earn his award in 14 minutes and 3 seconds while in San Diego this year! The Model Mania contest, held each year at SolidWorks World, is a design contest in which the fastest (and correct) design time wins. After participating off and on for a few years, (and nabbing 2nd place in 2004), Ed received the recognition we all new he deserved – 1st place.
Creating a bracket, making the design changes, creating configurations and then running SolidWorks Simulation Software Xpress to check factor of safety (this was the first year design validation was added to the contest criteria), Ed clocked in at under 15 minutes!
What’s his motivation? “I’ve never had to buy a video card. Every four years I participate in a SolidWorks contest of some sort, win and receive a video card for free!” Good tip for anyone looking to upgrade hardware.
