Once users come up with designs, wouldn’t it be cool if there was a way to tell if you could make it lighter? Instead of guessing the locations where you need to reinforce designs and where to take material off, wouldn’t it be cool if you could pin point locations directly? Almost sounds like a magic button!
Once a user runs analysis, the usual method of judging would be taking a look at stress, displacement, and factor of safety plots.

Stress Plot Displacement Plot
No matter how carefully you look at these plots they don’t give a clue about how to improve this design. So the next step would then be looking at the “Factor of Safety plot.” The handle has a minimum factor of safety of 2.2.
Factor of Safety Design Insight Plot
There is a new plot called “Design Insight Plot.” To create this plot right click on the results folder and select “Define Design Insight Plot.” Adjust the slider between “Most Loaded” and “All.” The plot shows regions of the model that carry the loads most efficiently. The translucent regions are areas where a user can potentially remove material.
Armed with this knowledge we improve design, removing material from the translucent region. We then check the “Factor of Safety plot” to make sure the design is still fine. The minimum factor of safety is 2.1. The design is lighter, put the money you save in bank $$$.
