Technical Support Bulletin: Adding a Welded Corner to your Sheet Metal Parts in SolidWorks 2008
By Paul Niedermann

In SolidWorks 2008 you can now add welded corners to your sheet metal parts.

To use this tool, start by creating your sheet metal part, this tool works well on mitered corners and edge flange corners or even on top of closed corners.
In the sheet metal toolbar select pull down in the corners tool, there you will see the welded corners tool.

Select it and pick an end face on a corner. You will see the preview of the corner. You have options to have it add a fillet, a texture, and a weld symbol and set the radius for the corner fillet.

You can also choose to pick a different end vertex if you don’t want the weld to go all the way to the end of the face. In this example, I have created a split line on the end face to give me a different vertex to stop the weld bead.

IIt may be helpful to pin the feature open and then continue to complete more weld features.  The one limitation on stopping a weld on the vertex is that the vertex must lie on one of the faces the weld is on. You cannot select other vertexes in the model.
