Automatic Repair, Model Quality Check and Improvement, Data Translation
FormatWorks solves frustrating data incompatibility problems occurring during the import of 3D models into SolidWorks. It extends SolidWorks data import and data translation to deal with problematic 3D models. FormatWorks verifies your 3D model quality in accordance with automotive standard recommendations (VDA4955, AIAG D-15, JAMA) or to defined user standard.
The supported data formats include neutral file formats (IGES, VDA-FS) and native translators (optional) for CATIA v4, CATIA v5, Pro/E, CADDS, UGS, etc.
The FormatWorks automatic repair and healing is performed within the original model tolerance. Hence the original model is never going to be deformed. The repair includes automatic forming of shells, skins and solids, joining planar surfaces, filling open contours, extending surfaces and multi-patch sewing. The NURBS improving function automatically verifies the surface definition to ensure a correct translation to other CAD systems (no face splitting). The feature recognition function automatically detects model entities defined as cylinder, cone, plane, torus and sphere. The model parametric space (2D) and model space (3D) definitions are synchronized to meet other CAD/CAE/CAM system requirements.
Manual repair includes unique surface creation methods operating directly on SW solid models. Surface operations as fill boundary and loft can be performed using the surface border or neighboring contours. Coinciding surfaces can be merged (small + large) to improve the model definition.
All manual operations are intuitive and easy to use since they are completely integrated into SolidWorks.
FomatWorks controls model quality and ensures correct data translation while maintaining the original model geometry.
