Turn on LAN Connection

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

I came upon an interesting situation the other day on support. It had to do with a borrowed license. The customer had borrowed a license and then was out of the office working on a project with a tight deadline. When SOLIDWORKS was started this message was received: This was something that I had not seen or recalled ever seeing before. (I should mention the fact that this was a message inside of the Windows 7 environment) Now since this […]

No Internet Connection Activation

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

Eventually you’ll have to get to the internet somehow to activate your SOLIDWORKS products. Let’s face it, how would we live without it at this point? SOLIDWORKS is completely activation based now for all products which requires some sort of connection to the big bad web somewhere sometime. Some users do not wish to have their workstations connected at all do to various reasons. The main one’s being security threats, resource suckers and general distractions from the main goal which […]

Hidden Bodies and Transparency

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

Hello, Just a little information to pass on. We here at CATI tech support have seen a few calls regarding the files opening up with the ‘solid bodies hidden’ in SOLIDWORKS 2010. It has been reported to SOLIDWORKS and an SPR has been identified as SPR 524372. The workaround is to manually go into the solid bodies folder and 're-show' the missing body. There is also an SPR for some bodies showing transparent when rolling the bar back and working […]

2010 Installation Quirk?

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

Things on support at CATI always come in waves. It like death and taxes – something that you can always count on. This being said in the last couple weeks we have been busy with installation questions and the usual interface change and functionality questions. But I started to see a trend. I will always consider something to be a trend after I see 3 calls within a 2 week period. I don’t know what is triggering this but I […]

SCALE DETAILS WITH WINDOWS COMMANDS

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

SCALE DETAILS WITH WINDOWS COMMANDS Let’s just say for arguments sake that you have a drawing with multiple sheets. On one of those drawings you have your standard 3 views with an isometric thrown in for good measure. You're running out of room and you have a few (3) detail views that you have decided to put on another sheet. So you do the “add sheet” thing and you can now use your windows commands to do the rest. So […]

Installation of VaultAdmin Tool on Client Computer.

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

You don’t have to do a remote desktop session into your server to run the Vault Admin tool for your PDMWorks Workgroup. As a cad admin or even a single user you can install the Vault Admin tool on the client as well. I also noticed while upgrading to SP 4.0 the other day that the VA tool got removed from my client computer and I needed to reinstall it. I believe it is designed this way for security reasons and […]

TO DELETE SELECT AND HIT THE DELETE KEY…………………… OR THE ENTER KEY?

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

While working on some projects a couple of months ago I was changing my registry settings in SOLIDWORKS and trying different things to try and reproduce some issue or issues that one of our customers was experiencing. In my haste to diagnose the problem something interesting happened. When I selected the item inside of SOLIDWORKS and hit the delete key absolutely NOTHING happened. I thought to myself "Wow that's really strange." No matter what I did I could not delete anything with […]

Knurl 2D Style!!

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

We had a couple of calls today regarding the addition of an area/hatch pattern on a cylinder in a drawing.Should be simple enough right? NOT!! You get this message instead!   So a customer came up with a work around until we can get this sorted out. Here are the steps: This is where we want the knurl to go.   Create a new layer called Knurl and draw a square where the knurled area is to be.   Hide […]

CUT LIST IN YOUR BOM!!!!!

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

I think one of the great features added to the 2009 SOLIDWORKS release is the ability to include a cut list in your top level assembly BOM. Let's say your assembly structure looks something like this.   The first component listed just so happens to be a weldment. Even though it does not really get welded-cause its wood. I like to use the weldments feature for lots of things that I want a cut list from (It groups like items […]
