SOLIDWORKS 2017 What’s New: SOLIDWORKS PDM Latest Version Overwrite – #SW2017

SOLIDWORKS PDM Latest Version Overwrite   In SOLIDWORKS PDM 2017 there is a new feature that is as powerful and potentially risky as the “Rollback” function. “Latest Version Overwrite” gives a user the ability to overwrite the latest version of the file with the most current version of a file. If data storage is a worry for your company, “Latest Version Overwrite” may be the simple solution it needs. File cleanup can be automated through workflows or allowed per user’s discretion.   In normal SOLIDWORKS PDM function, a new version of a file is created EVERY time a file or its corresponding metadata is altered and checked back in. In

SOLIDWORKS 2017 What’s New: Rollbacks Now Include Their References – #SW2017

Rollbacks Now Include Their References   Rollbacks, what are they all about? Rolling back a file in SOLIDWORKS PDM is often a last resort for returning a file to a previous state or version (and I’d like to add that I always recommend against using it, as most the time you can check a file out, get a previous version, then overwrite the current version with the older version).   Now, with all that said, one of the biggest pains can be rolling back individual files because their references can become all sorts of jumbled, and you’ll have version mismatches here and there, and it becomes a real headache, really

Copying SOLIDWORKS PDM Group Permissions and Group Members   With SolidWorks PDM 2017 comes a feature that will have admins everywhere celebrating. Right now the quickest way to copy group permissions and group members is manual and error prone (scroll down to the bottom to see this method).   In the NEW! 2017 Admin tool it only requires a few clicks. After creating and naming a new group, go to its Group Properties, select Copy from Group, and choose the desired source group. Click Next and OK.   That’s it!   Inconsistent group settings are thing of the past. By utilizing a template group, new groups can be quickly created

SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard is a document management product that is based on the same SQL architecture as SOLIDWORKS Enterprise PDM. One of the great functions of this new product offering is that you can easily upgrade to the full version of Enterprise PDM without any data migration. This is a product offering focused on small design companies with a simple workflow and one office location for file storage. One license of SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard CAD Editor is included with each license of SOLIDWORKS 2016 Professional and SOLIDWORKS 2016 Premium. Licenses for non-CAD users are available

The Importance of Backing up your SOLIDWORKS Files

If you have ever talked with one of the CATI Support Techs or any IT person they will almost always tell you that Rule #1 is to back up your data, and in the case of SOLIDWORKS users that means backing up your SOLIDWORKS files before anything else. I think most people put this off with the usual excuses of I got a new machine, I've never lost a hard drive before, etc… Well, 2 weeks ago this caught up to me and I lost my primary hard drive along with all files on it, or so I thought… see the end of the article for the detail on this.

Warning message of critical alert in SOLIDWORKS 2015 SP 0

You must have seen this message show up as you start SOLIDWORKS 2015 SP0:   If you have a custom property for the date created in your part, drawing, and/or assembly, you may want to upgrade to SP1.1.  The problem will cause the date in that custom property to roll back a day every time you open the file.  It's just good practice to upgrade even though you don't use that custom property.  For those of you who have access to SOLIDWORKS 2015 SP 0, but do not have access to SP1 or newer, SOLIDWORKS will give you access to download and upgrade to SP 1.1. Please contact your SOLIDWORKS provider
