SOLIDWORKS EPDM - System Tray Icon "Blueberry" Visibility
In this article you’ll see how to make the SOLIDWORKS EPDM System Tray Icon (the Blueberry) remain visible whether you are connected or not. It will also show you how to login and logout as needed to access the vault or free up the license for someone else to use.
For some customers it’s important to know if and when they are consuming a SOLIDWORKS EPDM license. For example you might have only a few Contributor licenses floating on the network but have more people who need to add files to the vault (which a Viewer license can’t do). If a user logs out of EPDM then the license is freed up for someone else to use.
EPDM Vault access can be obtained a couple of ways; automatically on login or on demand. The automatic login is often preferred by users because they aren’t burdened by having to make the click to login and type in a password. On demand login is when you aren’t logged in until you try to access the vault folder for the first time in that session and are prompted for the login.*
*Unless automatic login is turned on.
The picture above shows a Windows System Tray with a few basic icons.
Besides the Time and Date we see; Volume, Wireless Network and Windows Action Center.
Clicking on the triangle gives us access to hidden icons (see above).
Selecting “Customize…” will give us the ability to change the behavior of each icon.
Changing the option to “Show icon and notifications” will allow the icon to remain present.
Above we can see that the SOLIDWORKS EPDM System Tray Icon “Blueberry” is visible. The tooltip name will come up when you hover your cursor over the icon.
Then if you right click on the icon you’ll get options like Log In and a list of your vaults.
Selecting the vault will then prompt you for the username and password.*
*Unless automatic login is turned on.
Once you’re logged in, right clicking on the icon you’ll get an option to Log Off. You won’t see the icon change in any way, but if you right click on the icon again an see and Log In option, you’ll know you’re not logged in to a vault and not using an EPDM license.
Enjoy!
