Installing a new product can seem like a daunting task. With each new release of\u00a0SOLIDWORKS<\/a>, the process has become faster and simpler and better. At\u00a0Computer Aided Technology (CATI)<\/a>\u00a0Technical Support<\/a>, we still have many customers that ask the question, \u201cHow do I install SOLIDWORKS 2022?\u201d In this blog article, we will cover the best practices so that you can get up and running with the least amount of down time.<\/p>\n

Download SOLIDWORKS 2022 #SW2022<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Go to\u00a0www.solidworks.com<\/a>. At the top right of the page is the\u00a0Login<\/strong>\u00a0icon. Click\u00a0SW Customer Portal<\/strong>\u00a0from the pull-down menu.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Sign into your account using your email address and password. If you do not have an account, click the\u00a0Create a SOLIDWORKS ID<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0button.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Once you are logged in, click on\u00a0Downloads and Updates<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0under the\u00a0Download<\/strong>\u00a0section.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

On the\u00a0Downloads<\/strong>\u00a0page, make sure that\u00a02022<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is the\u00a0Selected Version<\/strong>. Then, click on the\u00a0SOLIDWORKS Products<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0link.<\/p>\n

Note<\/strong>: The\u00a0SOLIDWORKS Media<\/strong>\u00a0zip files are a convenient way to download the full contents of the DVD\u2019s if you have multiple installations to do and want to just download the files once. For the installation guide, we will not be using the Media files. If you would like to use them, simply download \u2018SOLIDWORKS Media (1 of 2)\u2019 and \u2018SOLIDWORKS Media (2 of 2)\u2019 and extract both zips to the same folder. Click Yes to overwrite duplicate files when prompted. Save the combined folder to local disk, external drive, or network drive. Run setup.exe from the combined folder to start the installation when needed.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

After clicking on the\u00a0SOLIDWORKS Products<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0link, read the SOLIDWORKS Download End User License Agreement and then click the\u00a0Accept Agreement & Continue<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0button.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

On the\u00a0Download and Install<\/strong>\u00a0page, click\u00a0Download<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Install SOLIDWORKS 2022 #SW022<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In Windows Explorer, browse to the downloaded\u00a0SolidWorksSetup.exe<\/strong>\u00a0file. To run the file, I prefer to right click on the file in Windows Explorer and select\u00a0Run as administrator<\/strong>. This makes sure that Windows has full permissions to change any file it needs to. If you double click on the file, it may work just fine, but a lot of installation failures are due to lack of proper permissions. The file is a self-extracting zip file. So, when prompted, choose a location and\u00a0Unzip<\/strong>\u00a0the file.<\/p>\n

This will launch the\u00a0SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager<\/strong>.\u00a0Note<\/strong>: SOLIDWORKS recommends that you restart your system before beginning a SOLIDWORKS installation. You will be prompted if a pending reboot is detected.\u00a0This dialog box shows up even after a reboot at time<\/em><\/strong>. If it does, just click\u00a0OK<\/strong>\u00a0to continue the installation.<\/p>\n

For an individual installation, keep\u00a0Install on this computer<\/strong>\u00a0selected, and click\u00a0Next<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Note<\/strong>: There is an option to\u00a0Download and Share all files<\/strong>. If you have more than one seat of SOLIDWORKS to install, this is a great time saving option.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

If you have had SOLIDWORKS installed before, your serial number will already be inserted. If not, type it in now. Notice that there are a few more options here if you have other serial numbers.\u00a0Note<\/strong>: If your serial number starts 0010 or 9010, you have a network serial number. Please be sure to upgrade the license server prior to launching the SOLIDWORKS 2022 client.<\/p>\n

Note<\/strong>: If you\u00a0Log in<\/strong>\u00a0with your SOLIDWORK One Account, your administrator can assign your serial number to your account from the SOLIDWORKS Admin Portal.<\/p>\n

For this Installation Guide, manually enter in your serial number. Once your serial number(s) is entered, click\u00a0Next<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The Installation Manager first performs a system check. SOLIDWORKS is checking to see if previous versions are detected. If you receive a warning, please review the warning before continuing by clicking\u00a0Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the following images, we will proceed as if we are installing a new installation or next to a previous install. Select\u00a0Create a new installation of SOLIDWORKS 2022<\/strong>\u00a0and click\u00a0Next<\/em><\/strong>. The steps are the same for a computer that has not had SOLIDWORKS installed on it before.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The first item on the\u00a0Summary<\/strong>\u00a0page is the option to select which\u00a0Products<\/strong>\u00a0you want to install. Use the\u00a0Change<\/strong>\u00a0link to select what pro\u00adducts you want to install.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

By clicking\u00a0Change\u00a0<\/strong>next to\u00a0Download Options<\/em><\/strong>, you can choose to download and install in the same operation or download separately then install. We will just keep the default\u00a0Download and install<\/strong>\u00a0option selected.<\/p>\n

Click\u00a0Change\u00a0<\/strong>next to\u00a0Installation Location<\/em><\/strong>. I recommend changing the\u00a0Installation Location<\/strong>. If the Installation Manager finds a folder already created with the same name, a new folder will automatically be created. Everything will still work, but over time this can get confusing when you have SOLIDWORKS Corp (2) or SOLIDWORKS Corp (3) etc. So, I always recommend naming the folder according to the version number. To change the location, simply click next to\u00a0Install selected products to<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and type in the new folder name, SOLIDWORKS 2022. To go back to the Summary page, click\u00a0Back to Summary<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Note<\/strong>: If you are sharing a toolbox or upgrading an existing toolbox you should choose to Use an existing SOLIDWORKS Toolbox and not lose your custom part numbers or settings.\u00a0WARNING<\/strong>: Make sure that all users are out of Toolbox when this is being done. PDM users will have to check out the entire toolbox. Upgraded Toolbox will not work for previous versions. Before updating Toolbox, I strongly suggest making a copy of Toolbox somewhere safe in case you need to go back for any reason.<\/p>\n

The last step is to check\u00a0I accept the terms of the SOLIDWORKS License Agreement<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

That\u2019s it! You are now ready to click\u00a0Download and Install<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Once the install is completed, please join the\u00a0SOLIDWORKS Customer Experience Improvement Program<\/strong>. Click\u00a0Yes, I want to join<\/strong>\u00a0and then click\u00a0Finish<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

NOTE<\/strong>: Please remember that the CAD Admin Dashboard and SOLIDWORKS tracking only works\u00a0if you join the\u00a0Customer Experience Improvement Program.\u00a0Participating will not slow down your system<\/strong>! SOLIDWORKS automatically creates the performance log files in the background\u00a0whether you participate or not<\/em>.\u00a0Please make sure to opt in!!<\/strong>\u00a0This program helps SOLIDWORKS improve product quality and determine product usage trends.<\/p>\n
