Session 1:

  • Option 1: Sheet Metal Design and Manufacturing Skills Event, Marcus Brown

Gain the essential industry knowledge to design manufacturable sheet metal components and assemblies that fit together perfectly the first time. Learn how to use SOLIDWORKS to create intelligent sheet metal parts, efficient and accurate documentation, and configure multiple design variations. All attendees will receive a training manual packed with helpful guides and full instructions to recreate the lesson on their own. Attendees will see examples of how to:

  • Use SOLIDWORKS Sheet Metal features to design sheet metal parts and assemblies

  • Build intelligent design intent with equations and variables

  • Configure product families and variations from a single base design

  • Understand K-Factor and bend stretch calculations for accurate flat patterns

  • Create drawings and flat pattern exports that are ready for manufacturing

  • Be more efficient in SOLIDWORKS with tips and tricks applicable to any model

  • Option 2: Large Assembly Best Practices – Tools and Techniques to Improve Performance, Brady Daniels - GoEngineer

If you struggle with performance when working with Large Assemblies in SOLIDWORKS, then you won’t want to miss this presentation. We’ll take a comprehensive look at performance bottlenecks, efficient design strategies and performance optimization tools. Attendees will leave equipped with practical strategies to enhance Large Assembly performance and boost productivity.

Session 2:

  • Option 1: Shocker Racing Formula SAE Car Review, Dane Moorhead - Chief Engineer

Shocker Racing Formula SAE's Chief Engineer will be presenting an overview of FSAE, The Shocker Racing team, and how the team uses SOLIDWORKS to aid in the design and manufacturing of a formula style car. The team is made up of 25 aspiring engineers from Wichita State University. The team has made a complete virtual twin of their upcoming car, SR24, in SOLIDWORKS. Along with a review of the virtual twin, Dane will be reviewing how the team uses SOLIDWORKS FEA, CFD and optimization studies to aid in design.

  • Option 2: Is it Time for DriveWorks?, Marcus Brown, MLC-CAD

DriveWorks is a product configurator and automated model generator that has the potential to streamline multiple aspects of customer engagement, design, and manufacturing. Is it time to consider it for your organization, or as is often the case, long overdue? We'll explore how it works and discuss the incremental licensing that allows you to start small with DriveWorksXpress and grow organically if you are struggling to secure funding for an all-inclusive solution. We'll also discuss a company that uses it extensively and see what a full implementation looks like from the customer and user perspectives.

We are excited to see you there!

Presentation:

Moving the Needle – Using SOLIDWORKS Flow as a Comparative Analysis Tool

Sean Borchert  |  Sean Borchert Design

Sean has presented at SOLIDWORKS World and User Group meetings several times, always entertaining and educational. This is Sean’s 3DExperience World 2024 presentation. You get to “experience” it here first. This instructional course is geared toward the designer/engineer that doesn't have the time to prototype, build and physically test multiple iterations ("Reduce Time to Market").

Key takeaways are: 1) How to plan for a comparative analysis project (best practices), 2) How to setup multiple iterations and batch run (tips and tricks), 3) How to use the Parametric Study feature for multiple boundary conditions (instructional, tips and tricks).

This course will also touch on post-processing and review of results to see what improvements (if any) can be discerned from running multiple studies. The purpose is to "move the needle" for the design to see if changing a parameter (or two) benefits the design in a timely fashion.

We will have the usual pizza and soft drinks for refreshments, along with a door prize drawing (if we have prizes to give away).

The meeting should adjourn around 8:30pm

No RSVP necessary.

Looking forward to seeing the familiar faces along with any new members.
