SOLIDWORKS 2018 Admin Portal & Online Licensing

Now you can easily manage your SOLIDWORKS licenses through this cloud-based management service. You must have internet access to sign in and use online licensing.

NOTE: You must have a SOLIDWORKS ID and a ‘MySolidWorks’ Guest, Standard, or Professional account to access the Admin Portal.

Administrators can easily monitor the following:

  • View all their SOLIDWORKS licenses Admin can deactivate or activate member’s licenses
  • Admin can deactivate or activate member’s licenses
  • Can set member’s product activation type from Machine Activation to Online Licensing
  • Invite members to an account (i.e. new employee hires) and assign licenses to the new user
  • Ability to remove users from licenses from even remote locations
  • Assign certain products and services to members, such as, if an employee leaves the company, you can turn off access to any license(s) and assign them to anyone else
  • Create new administrators and/or promote a user to Administrator
  • One click access to your CAD Admin Dashboard at any time while in the ADMIN Portal

Users with 2018 SOLIDWORKS Standalone Licenses Now Have 2 Licensing Option Modes:

  1. MACHINE ACTIVATION MODE – set as standard default
  2. ONLINE LICENSING MODE (with optional OFFLINE MODE, for up to 30 days)

BENEFITS OF ONLINE LICENSING FOR STANDALONE LICENSES:

  • The standalone license user will have the ability now to use one license across all their devices.
  • The user will have the flexibility to use SOLIDWORKS in any location and without having to remember to activate and/or deactivate their SOLIDWORKS licenses from one device to another.
  • Synchronize SOLIDWORKS settings across machines and access your Customer Portal and my.soldiworks.com accounts.
  • REMINDER: You must have internet access to sign in and use online licensing.
  • OFFLINE MODE Option for up to 30 days (just like checking out a network license)
    • You can continue to use the SOLIDWORKS product for 30 days without reconnecting to a SOLIDWORKS web site. At the end of 30 days, you must select Take License Offline again to continue working in offline mode.
    • NOTE: When you are using the Online Licensing in the OFFLINE MODE on one machine, you cannot use that license on any other machine.

EXTRA NOTES:

  • User needs to deactivate their SOLIDWORKS license to change product activation type from Machine Activation to Online Licensing.
  • You can close and restart SOLIDWORKS on the same machine without having to enter credentials again, until you log out.

STEPS TO ACTIVATING ONLINE LICENSING:

Step1. Deactivate your SOLIDWORKS license(s).

Step 2. Log into your MY.SOLIDWORKS.COM account.

Step 4. Open the Admin Portal.

Step 3. Select your name in the upper right corner and then select Admin Portal from drop down menu.

Step 4. Search for your desired name under the Members area section of the Admin Portal.

Feel free to use any search filters to help your Search.

Step 5. Select product(s) you would like to change Online Licensing.

Step 6. Select products you would like to change from Machine Activation to Online Licensing Activation Type. Then click on ‘Change to Online Licensing’.

Step 7. It will prompt you to make sure you want to Change to Online Licensing. Select Change button.

Step 8. Now the licensing method should be toggled to Change to Machine Activation and your ‘Activation Type’ should set to Online Licensing

Step 9. Once the license activation type has been changed to Online, restart SOLIDWORKS. When you first restart SOLIDWORKS. You will see the error message below. No worries. Just close and restart SOLIDORKS again.

Step 10. The second restart will want you to login to your SOLIDWORKS account. Use your MY.SOLIDWORKS account login information here.

Step 11. SOLIDWORKS products are switched to Online Licensing.

  • REMINDER: You must have internet access to sign in and use online licensing.
  • OFFLINE MODE Option for up to 30 days (just like checking out a network license)
    • You can continue to use the SOLIDWORKS product for 30 days without reconnecting to a SOLIDWORKS web site. At the end of 30 days, you must select Take License Offline again to continue working in offline mode.

NOTE: When you are using the Online Licensing in the OFFLINE MODE on one machine, you cannot use that license on any other machine.

Step 12. To switch back your SOLIDWORKS products from Online Licensing to Machine Activation.

Select Logout, then close out of your SOLIDWORKS session.

Step 13. Repeat Steps 2 thru 6 to log back into your MY.SOLIDWORKS.COM account to switch back your SOLIDWORKS products from Online Licensing to Machine Activation.

Step 14. It will prompt you to make sure you want to Change to Machine Activation. Select Change button.

Now the licensing method should be toggled to Change to Online Licensing and the ‘Activation Type’ should be Machine Activation.

Step 15. Now just reactivate your SOLIDWORKS products  you previously selected to change them back to Machine Activation.

Online licensing is FREE and completely optional in SOLIDWORKS 2018. It allows great flexibility for a standalone license and it can almost be treated like a network license in some respects.

NOTE: You only need to deactivate and activate your SOLDIWORKS licenses when you want to change between Machine Activation and Online Licensing.
