CAMWorks Licensing Setup – Standalone and Network Licensing

CAMWorks Licensing Setup – Standalone and Network Licensing

The two main types of CAMWorks licenses are Standalone and Network, and both require a Flex LM license file be requested when setting up the CAMWorks License Manager.

Tech Tip: A hardware dongle (USB) can be used in place of a standalone license file for additional security, however keep in mind that the USB dongle is effectively your license and a new license will need to be purchased if lost or stolen.

This guide assumes you have already installed CAMWorks. To find the installation files, register and login to the Customer Area on www.camworks.com. Navigate to Support > Customer Area, and click on CAMWorks Downloads.

Tech Tip: If you’re using a server computer to only host the network licenses, you do not need the full CAMWorks install. You can find just the CAMWorks License Manager in Customer Area > Miscellaneous Downloads.

Don’t hesitate to contact us on support if you have any issues during your CAMWorks install or getting to the proper installation files.

Requesting the Standalone or Network License File

It’s important to note this license file request MUST be sent from the client computer (standalone) or server computer (network) that will be using the license. If this is done via a remote session, the license file will not work and will need to be regenerated.

Begin by launching the CAMWorks license manager with administrator privileges. The license manger can be found by searching All Programs for CW License Manager or in the Start menu under Programs > CAMWorks License Manager > CW License Manager.

Right-Click CW License Manager > Run as Administrator.

Tech Tip: You may need to contact your local IT administrator for admin privileges or be logged in as a local administrator of your system.

For Standalone Licenses:

With the CAMWorks license manager open, select the License Setup tab. For License Method, select Flex LM Software and Node locked (standalone). Then select Request License.

If you have Outlook installed, you can select Create E-mail using Outlook. If you do not use Outlook, you can save the license request file to your computer using Open in Windows Explorer. Browse to C:CWLicenseManager or the location prompted and e-mail the file to gt.register@hcl.com.

You should receive your unique license file within 1-3 days. Once you receive the license file, save it to a folder that it can be stored in undisturbed.

Tech Tip: C:CWLicenseManager is a great location to save your license file.

Once you have your standalone license file, you need to point to it using the same CW License Manager.

On the License Setup tab, select to Browse under Configure FlexLM License and locate the same license file that was emailed to you by CAMWorks.

Once you have your network license file, you need to set it up using the same CW License Manager on the server computer.

On the Server Settings tab, select the Browse icon next to the License file path and point it to the same license file that was emailed to you by CAMWorks.

Once the network license file path is populated, select to Install License Service. After installing the license service, you should then be able to select Start License Service.

Client Computer Setup (Network License Only):

The last step in this process is to point the CAMWorks client computers to the network license server.

On the client computer(s), launch the CW License Manager and select the License Setup tab.

Under License Method, select Floating network server. You will then be prompted to fill out the Server Host name and the Port number.

For Server Host name, type in the name of the server computer hosting the licenses. For the Port number, the default port used by CAMWorks is 27000, however if you specified a different port number in your network license request form, enter the same number used there.
