SOLIDWORKS 2019 What’s New – The Schematic Magnificent Seven – #SW2019
SOLIDWORKS Schematic 2019 is looking to bring several User Interface enhancements to the table that will increase ease of use and productivity with the software. I will briefly list out a few of the more notable ones of from the list and you will see this is just a few of the many. The rest you will have to ride into a DI event or catch one of the DI Online events. There is also a livestream event in case you aren’t able to make one in person.
New Icons – One of the first areas to notice will be that icons have been updated and changed to support 4K monitors. Several of the application windows have seen a facelift, including the revision manager and the libraries manager.
Go To – The popular ‘go to’ command has been integrated to the PLC manager and in the wire cabling order manager, which should reduce time opening or navigating pages in the project.
Convert schematic drawing or wiring line diagram to a mixed scheme – One of my favorites of this release is the new option to convert single line or schematics to mixed schema drawings if you need to expand to include both styles. Previously I was usually just creating mixed pages from the start to have that in the back pocket for design.
New Macro button – Right off the ribbon command bar, users are able to insert macros from a new button. It allows a bit more browsing for the desired macro than having to build up your groups of macros listed on the macro pane.
Switch cable cores in terminal strip editor – If anyone ever needed to move things around on the terminal strip, you will like this new improvement! There is a new cable core swap button in the terminal strip manager that lets you quickly revise design content with no need to go back to the schematic.
Archive wizard – A new addition to the process of archiving a project using the ‘archive project wizard’ to choose whether dependencies like 3D files, images, and shortcut data are included in the archive. Now you will have all the data needed without having to run additional gathering processes. No more launching SolidWorks and running a pack-n-go!
Manufacturer parts manager – In the manufacturer parts manager, you will see that ‘super parts’ has been renamed ‘Electrical Assemblies’ to better reflect what the content is. It still is a super part, but more the super assembly of parts to cut down all that part definition adding!
I hope this part of the What’s New series gives you a better understanding of the new features and functions of SOLIDWORKS 2019. Please check back to the CATI Blog as the CATI Application Engineers will continue to break down many of the new items in SOLIDWORKS 2019. All these articles will be stored in the category of “SOLIDWORKS What’s New.”
