SOLIDWORKS 2022 What’s New – Excluding Components From BOM
It is common for our SOLIDWORKS assemblies to contain components that we do not want to include in the Bill of Materials. SOLIDWORKS has long contained a setting in the Component Properties to exclude components from the Bill of Materials. While useful, this is after the fact setting and needed applying to every component. What if you know ahead of assembling that the component is to be excluded from the BOM?
For these situations, SOLIDWORKS 2022 adds a new setting for excluding components from the Bill of Materials. This setting is now a Configuration Property, located in the Bill of Materials Options. Once set, the component configuration is excluded from the BOM when inserted into an assembly.
While this new setting is welcome and will be useful, it is important what this setting does and does not do.
- It only applies when the component configuration is inserted to an assembly. Any existing components or configurations are not affected. The are still excluded from the BOM using the setting in the Component Properties.
- It is a configuration specific setting. This means that configuration A is excluded from the BOM while configuration B is included. This may be useful in certain applications.
- As a configuration specific setting, it is supported in the new Configuration Table. For more information on that new functionality, see this CATI blog post.
I hope this part of the What’s New series gives you a better understanding of the new features and functions of SOLIDWORKS 2022. Please check back to the CATI Blog as the CATI Application Engineers will continue to break down many of the new items in SOLIDWORKS 2022. All these articles will be stored in the category of “SOLIDWORKS What’s New.”
