Buffalo Grove, IL, August 7, 2007– Computer Aided Technology, Inc. (CATI) has announced a joint contribution with Advanced Machine & Engineering Co. (AME) to Rockford Lutheran School to start a class that teaches 3D computer aided design (CAD) skills. CATI is donating SOLIDWORKS, the industry standard in 3D CAD software. AME will be donating computers and other necessary hardware.
The class was created in response to the interest of many students at the school. In the past, Rockford Lutheran has experimented with similar CAD classes, but the class has never become a permanent fixture in the school’s curriculum. With the help of CATI and AME however, they feel the necessary steps to ensure the class will be offered permanently have been taken.
Rockford Lutheran School Principal, Don Kortze, reports the vision of the course – initially a combined engineering and IT curriculum – will evolve into internships for students at surrounding businesses. “AME and EIGERlab are both receptive to working in conjunction with Rockford Lutheran students to provide real-world experience with the students’ newly-acquired SOLIDWORKS training. We are pleased to offer such experience to our students as they prepare for higher education. It should provide them the competitive advantage needed for acceptance into the college of their choice,” Korzte states.
Finding teachers with experience in engineering and engineering technology has not been easy. Presently though, Rockford Lutheran has an instructor with the necessary background. Mrs. Barb Dent will have the responsibility of teaching the class at Rockford Lutheran. Additionally, she will benefit from the existing relationship CATI has with EIGERlab. CATI currently holds its training classes at EIGERlab in Rockford, IL, which is where Mrs. Dent will receive training in the SOLIDWORKS software being taught in this course.
“CATI and AME share in the enthusiasm Rockford Lutheran has in developing a class devoted to 3D CAD,” says CATI President, Rich Werneth, “we are very happy to have this opportunity to work on the establishment of such a class and give back to the Rockford community where CATI has had offices since February of ‘05.” Everyone at CATI shares in Werneth’s excitement in helping to build our future engineers.
