SOLIDWORKS TECH TIP: When is a Cavity and a Tooth a Good Thing?

Just this past week, I was asked to assist one of our customers with a modeling issue. The goal was to create a usable mold based on imported geometry, which in this case just happened to be a tooth.
Ordinarily I would leverage the mold tools to generate all the required components, but because the faces of the solid were faceted and inconsistent, this posed the challenge.
Leveraging a “split,” “split,” and “combine/subtract,” I was able to come up with a viable solution.
Here is a short video of what I was able to accomplish.

Remember: it’s the little things.
