SOLIDWORKS 2016 Make Section Line
Recently I was talking to some folks who were asking if SOLIDWORKS could add a section line without cutting an additional section cut or making a second section view. I knew we could re-use section view labels, like re-using A-A for example. I played with a sample file and discovered that you can in fact do just what they were asking.
It is a pretty simple process. First you make a drawing view, and for my example I am using an assembly view. Next I draw two sketch lines, vertical, in the view. 
I click on one line and then go to the Insert pull down menu. In this menu is a command to "Make Section Line":
The result is a new Section Cutting Line in place of this reference sketch line:
Lastly, I select the 2nd line and choose to make a new Section View:
The result here is a new section view, using B-B as this is the next label in the process. I place the view and then edit the section view properties to change from B to A:
After accepting the message to use this label again, you can see that both the section line and section view are representing A-A:
You can complete this process by hiding or excluding components from this section view or even copy this view and make unique changes to each. This is a nice time saver when you have multiple section views showing basically the same information.
