A Small Machine for Big Ideas

The MDX-40A is a versatile CNC mill that handles a wide variety of non-proprietary plastic and resin materials, including ABS, delrin, nylon, acrylic, chemical wood and tooling board. Everything from smooth art sculptures to high-precision parts and prototypes can be created with the MDX-40A, helping you transform concepts into functional objects. It can also operate as a stand-alone CNC engraving machine, offering further flexibility and potential revenue streams.

Smooth Milling Minimal Finishing

The MDX-40A Benchtop CNC Mill is equipped with a high-precision spindle that reduces vibration and produces extremely accurate prototypes, perfect for achieving even complex snap-fit finishes. With ISO15448 standard collets, the MDX-40A generates a smooth surface finish that requires little to no post finishing work.

Easy is an Understatement

Become a prototyping expert almost immediately with the MDX-40A’s simple yet powerful Virtual Control Panel and bundled SRP Player CAM software. A five-step workflow takes the user through effortless milling, while speed, cursor and cutting tools offer further control. Optional extras include a ZCL-40A rotary axis for uninterrupted 360-degree modeling and a scanning unit for reverse engineering and digitizing of existing parts or molds.


Optional Upgrades

Two upgrades are available from Roland to optimize the production of the MDX-40A.
Additional Rotary Axis
With the ZCL-40A optional rotary axis, the MDX-40A performs unattended four-sided milling. When one side is completed, the part is automatically rotated until all sides have been milled, allowing you to continue other work while your prototypes are being created.
Contact Scanning Unit
The ZSC-1 Scanning Unit enables the MDX-40A to reverse engineer by digitizing an existing part, product or mold, so it can be worked on in the CAD software. Scan a variety of objects including soft objects like modeling clay and intricate glass or acrylic, without making a scratch. The ZSC-1 comes with scanning software and the option to integrate advanced PixForm Pro 2 reverse engineering software.

Fits Cleanly in Any Environment

The MDX-40A is a compact machine with an integrated safety cover to keep dust out of the surrounding environment and make the cutting mechanism inaccessible during milling to ensure safety.

Easy Control with the Virtual Control Panel

A Virtual Control Panel allows for control of the MDX-40A directly from your PC, simplifying both setup and operation. Easily adjust the speed of cursor movements for origin setting, as well as move the tool to desired positions.

From design to mill in three simple steps. Roland’s MDX rapid prototyping machines come complete with SRP Player Software to prepare your CAD model for RP manufacturing with no programming skills required.

Step 1 – Design
Design your 3D CAD model and export it as an .STL, .DXF, .3DM, or .IGS/.IGES file.
Step 2 – Import
Open the file in Roland SRP Player software and simply use the five-step wizard to process the data for your Roland MDX rapid prototyping machine. You don’t have to worry about feeds and speeds, cut depth, surface selection or G-Code programming: SRP Player does it all for you!
Step 3 – Mill
SRP Player automatically generates machine tool paths and a finished preview. Just click Send to Machine to mill a prototype with smooth surfaces and tight tolerances from your choice of material.
