SOLIDWORKS: Adding File Locations

When upgrading your SOLIDWORKS each year you might find one of these two items; a missing file location, or a wrong file location. A missing file location for example would mean that a feature like the Weldment Profile is not directed to any folder, which would cause there to be no profile list within your Weldments feature. A wrong file location for example would be if your Weldment Profiles file location was pointing to a previous version file.

For this example I will show you how to add a file location for a missing design library.

If your design library file location is missing it will not be listed in your Task Pane tab called the Design Library.

PROCESS:

• Unhide ProgramData folder
• Show folders for
• Add new file location

UNHIDE POGRAMDATA FOLDER:

• Windows 7 professional system
  • OS(C:) drive
  • Organize pulldown menu
  • Folder and Search options
  • View tab
  • Select to show the hidden files
• Different Windows editions will have different directories for showing hidden folders.

  SHOW FOLDERS FOR:

• Now that the ProgramData folder is visible.
  • Open "Options" within your SOLIDWORKS version
  • Go to the "System Options" tab.
  • Toward the middle of the list you will see "file location".
  • Using the pulldown menu available, you can direct to the Design Library to view where the file locations are pointing.

 ADD NEW FILE LOCATION:

• There is an "Add" button on the right side. Selecting to "Add" will open a "Browse For Folder" pop up where you need to select the folders to direct to the correct location.

  • OS(C:)
  • ProgramData
  • SOLIDWORKS
  • SOLIDWORKS 2016
    
  • Design library
    
• Once you have directed to the correct design library location you can click the "OK" button to accept that added file location.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

Adding a file location for other folders listed (in that "Show Folders For" pull down list) will be processed the same way, except where you direct that file location will be different for each folder needed.
