Stratasys 3D Printing: Nylon 12 vs. the New Nylon 6 - FDM Printers

Nylon 12 vs. the New Nylon 6 – FDM Printers

As some of you may have heard, Stratasys recently released a new FDM material: Nylon 6. Well doesn’t Stratasys already have a Nylon material? Yes, but the new Nylon 6 is a different formulation of Nylon meant for different applications. Here are some of the main differences:

SOLIDWORKS

Nylon is a very widely used thermoplastic in manufacturing. There are many different formulations with different mechanical and thermal properties. The new Nylon 6 is an even stronger, more durable version than the original Nylon 12. With a higher tensile strength and elongation at break, this material is suited for even more rigorous applications such as functional performance testing and environmentally challenging manufacturing aids. It combines the strength of ULTEM 9085 with the toughness of Nylon to create these properties.

These properties allow customers to do more functional testing of components such as gears, fasteners, covers, pedals, handles, and joints prior to investing big money in tooling. Nylon 6 also expands the scope of parts that can be printed for low volume production.
