SOLIDWORKS 2015 What’s New – Asymmetric Fillets #sw2015

The Fillet command now allows Asymmetric Fillets. Previously we were restricted to circular and conic symmetric section profiles. New in SOLIDWORKS 2015 we have the ability to add elliptical fillets along with asymmetrical conic fillets.

Let's take a look at how to add and tweak this new feature.

In order to create an Asymmetric Fillet, select the Fillet command from the CommandManager or Insert->Features->Fillet/Round.

The asymmetric fillets are found under the Manual fillet tool and the Constant Size Fillet type. Then select your Items to Fillet. I've selected these four edges.

Now we're going to set our fillets to asymmetric. In the Fillet Parameters menu select Asymmetric from the drop down menu.

We now have two inputs for radii. These control the radius at either end of the fillet. We can also select our profile either elliptical or conic rho. To apply our Fillet click OK.

Looking at the top face, we can see that one fillet has the short side on top, while the other has the long end of the fillet. If we wanted both fillets to have the long face on top we can go in and reverse the direction of the fillets for that edge.

I'm editing the fillet I created and showing the Full preview, so that I can see each filleted corner.

SolidWorks

To orient them correctly, select the edge from the Items to Fillet box and press the Reverse Direction button in the Fillet Parameters menu. This has to be done for each fillet individually. Click OK.

The dimensions of the asymmetric fillets are seen below.
