Jagged Outline

 

In SOLIDWORKS 2017, detailed drawing views now have the option for “Jagged Outline” view.

 

You can now have your Detailed Views to have Jagged Outlines, such as:

 

  • Crop View
  • Detail View
  • Break View

 

Crop View with Jagged Outline:

Setting the Line Font for Emphasized Outlines:

 

To set the line font for emphasized outlines:

 

In a drawing, click Tools > Options > Document Properties > Line Font

 

In the dialog box, in Type of Edge, select Emphasized Section Outline

 

Set your options.

 

Click OK button. (Reminder: This is a Document Property, so this changes are specific to this document or in this case, SOLIDWORKS drawing file. If you like this new Jagged Line option.)

 

Creating Crop Views with Jagged Outlines:

 

To create crop views with jagged outlines:

 

In a drawing view, sketch a closed profile for the crop view, for example, a circle.

Click Crop View (Command Manager > View Layout > Crop View) or Insert > Drawing View > Crop.

 

The view outside the profile disappears. As shown below:

Select the drawing view.

 

In the Property Manager, under Crop View, select Jagged outline.

 

You may change intensity of the jagged outline by moving the slider bar which is under Shape Intensity.

How to create detail views with jagged outlines:

 

While in a drawing, click Detail View from the Drawing Toolbar or Insert >Drawing View > Detail, the Circle tool will become active.

 

Sketch a circle on your desired view you would like create a Detail View of.

In the Property Manager, under Detail View, select Jagged outline.

Creating Break Views with Jagged Cut Break Line Styles

 

To create break views with jagged cut break line styles:

In the Property Manager, choose Break View Settings, in the Break Line Style, select Jagged Cut.

You may change intensity of the jagged outline by moving the slider bar which is under Shape Intensity.

 

Click to place the first break line, then click to place the second break line. Then set your Gap Distance.

Click the OK button to accept your Broken View. As shown above.
