SolidWorks World 2014 Recap: Day 3

The big day has come and gone! Day 3 at SolidWorks World always proves to be one of the most anticipated. We get an opportunity to find out what the Top 10 most user-requested features for the software are, as well get insight into what new functionality is already being added into SolidWorks 2015.

Top 10

For the Top 10 most requested features, SolidWorks relies on a number of touch points to compile the user-created list that is then posted for the user community to vote on.  For this year, the list is as follows:

10.  Auto-hide assembly components while mating new components

9. Provide a Purge Data command to reduce file size

8.  List quantity of identical holes in a hole callout

7.  Redefine a fillet to a chamfer from within the same command (and vice versa)

6.  Redefine angular dimensions after they have been placed

5.  Unlimited Undo/Redo

4.  ESC should always return control to the UI

3.  Draw line from midpoint

2.  Rename components from the Feature Manager Tree

1.  Equal spacing for linear patterns

There were some great enhancement requests listed this year and many were met with applause from the crowd!

2015 Enhancements

Every year, the technical marketing team does a skit to introduce the new enhancements for the next release. This year it was “Cadman,” the SolidWorks remake of the old Batman TV show. CAD Manager Gordon called on the assistace of Cadman and Ribbon to help catch “The Marker.”  It goes without saying that the cheese factor was pretty high, but we thought it was quite entertaining.

Recognitions

The technical team at FISHER/UNITECH strives to make sure that our skillsets match our customers needs. This helps to ensure that we can provide the right guidance at the right time.  This year, two of our AEs were awarded the highest honor SolidWorks provides for technical achievement, the “Elite AE” status. Elite AE status requires not only multiple certifications across all of the SolidWorks product lines, but also a demonstrated commitment to the SolidWorks User community. Lindsey Early, EPDM Consultant and Mike Hansen, Senior Application Engineer both accepted awards on stage this year. Congratulations to both!

Another World is in the bag. It’s been a long and tiring week, but with all the new product announcements, new friends, and of course all the fun, we couldn’t help but walk away excited. Next year’s SolidWorks World will be in Phoenix, AZ; we look forward to seeing everyone there!
