Celebrate National Beer Day with SOLIDWORKS

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

In case you didn’t know it, Thursday April 7th is National Beer Day! This particular day was chosen of course in honor of the partial repeal of prohibition on April 7th, 1933, that legally allowed beer with up to 3.2% alcohol to be brewed again. The full repeal (allowing liquor and other spirits) didn’t happen until Dec 5th… So hey!  2 days to celebrate!! With the giant push towards craft beer in the recent 4-6 years in the United States […]

New in SOLIDWORKS 2016 – Rename from SOLIDWORKS Assembly Tree

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

One pretty amazing new option in SOLIDWORKS 2016 is the Rename From Feature Tree.  This has been a long time request every year on the Top 10 Enhancements for SOLIDWORKS. One super important thing to mention first is that you have to turn on a System Option for this to work… When enabled, this option gives you the ability to rename a part file, just by slowly double-clicking (or F2) on the name in the Assembly Tree. When you do […]

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

Here is a compilation of a bunch of what’s (hopefully) New in SOLIDWORKS 2017 that was shown at SOLIDWORKS World 2016 in Dallas a couple weeks ago. Some of it makes sense just reading it and some of it you had to see. I also say “hopefully” because there of course is the chance that ANY of these could get dropped from the software between now and when SOLIDWORKS 2017 gets released in October. Some of these are really great, […]

Place your Sweep Profile Anywhere

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

If you have taken any of our advanced part modeling or surfacing classes in the past we have always preached to make sure that your SWEEP profile was located at one end or the other of your sweep path. This usually meant that it was much easier to draw your sweep PATH first, so that you would know where to locate the sweep PROFILE. Well, forget all that with SOLIDWORKS 2016… With the new options to sweep in Direction1, Direction2, […]

The Power of RELOAD

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

Let’s take a look at the correct way to use it… If you have an assembly (or drawing) open and you want to make a change to an individual part, one way to do it is to right+ clk the part and Open Part (in its own window). You can then make the changes you need to that part file (adding holes, changing dimensions, etc). When it’s time […]

Creating SOLIDWORKS Library Features From Scratch

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

6 Easy Steps to Create SOLIDWORKS Library Features From Scratch Creating Library Features from scratch is a VERY valuable technique to know. It can save you tons of time when you have “common features” that you want to reuse over and over again. In this case let’s say we have a drafted, filleted, pocket that we are tired of creating over and over every day. (Fig. 1) We would like to “capture” this feature into the Design Library so that […]
