Composer Standalone – SOLIDWORKS Translator – Large Assembly Mode

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

A previous SOLIDWORKS Composer blog article mentions that one of the causes of a blank assembly in Composer is due to Lightweight components being present in a SOLIDWORKS model. This article will review that issue, but from the perspective of a user that only uses SOLIDWORKS Composer standalone and does not have SOLIDWORKS installed. To recap, when translating a file to composer, it is opened in SOLIDWORKS in the background. When an assembly reaches a high enough number of components, SOLIDWORKS […]

SOLIDWORKS: Speeding up selections in Composer

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

Speeding up selections in SOLIDWORKS Composer   There are many functions that can help speed up your workflow in SOLIDWORKS Composer, I want to talk about one called Selections Sets. Selection Sets have been in Composer since day one but I don’t come across many users taking advantage of them. They allow you to repeatedly select a defined group of actors with one click of the mouse. If this sounds vaguely familiar, it may be because Selection Sets were added […]

SOLIDWORKS: Transform Tips in Composer

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

Transform Tips in SOLIDWORKS Composer   SOLIDWORKS Composer has some very easy to use tools to create exploded views; the Translate and Rotate tools on the Transform tab come to mind. There are others, but those two are the main ones used and what I’d like to talk about.     In this example, I’m beginning to capture views to document the disassembly of the rotor head of this RC helicopter. You can see that when I select an actor […]

How to Mirror Parts in SOLIDWORKS Composer

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

Recently, I was contacted by a customer that was struggling with creating an opposite-hand version of a part in Composer and wanted to know if it was even possible. The engineers had only provided him with one side; however, both a left-hand version and a right-hand version of the component existed.Composer *can* do this utilizing the “Symmetrize” function. Symmetrize makes the geometry symmetrical according to the desired point, plane, or axis.  Simply select and copy your geometry, then select “Symmetrize” […]

SolidWorks Composer: Animations in a Snap! [VIDEO]

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

While SOLIDWORKS Composer offers incredible tools to create complex animations, sometimes a simple video will suffice. Many times, I have found that just a basic animation can help to convey the most complex ideas, concepts, and designs – and they’re really pretty easy to create! In this example, we will look at a basic fireplace shovel; however, the assembly can be as simple or complex as it needs to be. Start by capturing a view of your assembly, centrally located, […]

Something New in 3DVIA Composer V6R2013

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

The newest version of Composer was released on Monday (5/21/2012).  One of the cool new features is the Image Library workshop, which contains stock images that you can drag to the viewport to create image 2D panels. For example, use the screwdriver images to illustrate assembly and dis-assembly operations. You can also navigate to folders containing your own .bmp, .jpg, .tga, or .rgb images from the Image Library.   I tried it.  I like it a lot!
