Meshing Errors in SOLIDWORKS Plastics 2016   When trying to mesh a runner system with the part in SOLIDWORKS 2016, you may end up getting errors that don’t give you a clue to what is wrong. For instance, take a look at this message: when sewing connector, it without any face error!! This message came up when I was creating a solid mesh. Not sure if the message is a direct translation from another language but it doesn’t give you […]

SOLIDWORKS Power Select

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

The SOLIDWORKS Power Select command is one of those “hidden” commands that not many people know about.  We don’t talk about it in any training class and unless you accidentally stumbled on to it, you have probably never used it.  BUT, it can be a great time saving way to select things in a part file. Here is how you access it… And as you can see it gives you many filters/combinations to select different items in your part that […]

Classic SOLIDWORKS Colors Are Back

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

Colors are back in SOLIDWORKS 2016!!! I wonder if Pablo Picasso was referring to SOLIDWORKS when he said “Colors, like features, follow the changes of emotions”?  Based upon the number of technical support phone calls and emails we have received since SOLIDWORKS 2016 was introduced, there is no denying the emotional attachment we users have with our CAD interface!  If you’ve been using SOLIDWORKS long enough, you may recall the uproar over the graphical user interface (GUI) changes from 2007 to […]

Place your Sweep Profile Anywhere

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

If you have taken any of our advanced part modeling or surfacing classes in the past we have always preached to make sure that your SWEEP profile was located at one end or the other of your sweep path. This usually meant that it was much easier to draw your sweep PATH first, so that you would know where to locate the sweep PROFILE. Well, forget all that with SOLIDWORKS 2016… With the new options to sweep in Direction1, Direction2, […]

EmailFacebookLinkedInTwitterShare

In this post I will highlight 3 more of my favorite enhancements of SOLIDWORKS 2016.  The first of the three will be the Intersect feature. The Intersect feature isn’t new in SOLIDWORKS 2016 but was added in SOLIDWORKS 2013.  When we got this feature, one of my favorite things about it was the ability to find the internal volume of a bottle/bowl/etc.  Before, you would have to either do multiple extrudes or possibly some complex surfacing.  This all took a […]
